KM Roofing Edinburgh, Roofers Edinburgh – After our roofers had cleared heavy moss from a clients pitched concrete tiled roof in South Edinburgh, it was decided to mechanically fix a copper strip 50mm wide along the roof ridge to prevent a further build up of moss on the roof tiles. This works as the rainwater washes over the copper strip on the roof ridge, slowly oxidising the copper and the copper ions prohibit further moss growth on the roof tiles (not only is the moss harmful to the roof tiles, it also blocks guttering and downpipes very quickly) This is visible on any copper roof, or any roof with a copper valley or flashing. This technique has been used in the North of Scotland for decades, although a more primitive system, by simply using a copper wire. All roofing works by KM Roofing Edinburgh. The new window unit our roofers fitted is supplied with a white uPvc finish as it is for a bathroom, to help prevent mildew and staining from condensation & aid ease of cleaning. Our roofers stripped out the clay roof tiles, removed the old Velux window unit & flashing kit and fitted the new window with correct flashing kit for the roof pitch. Heavy moss build up on a roof is harmful to the roof tiles and should be removed by hand using scrapers and a wire brush. Although time consuming, this method does not damage the roof tiles.
